Regents Park students celebrate Pi Day!
Did you know that March 14th is annual Pi day? The ratio of the diameter of a circle to its circumference is 3.14 (two decimal places) and is celebrated world wide as ‘third month, fourteenth day’. This year, when rounded to four decimal places, Pi = 3.1416, which neatly reads as ‘fourteenth March, 2016’.
Tutor groups explored this idea by playing a Pi themed dingbats game in tutor time. Mathematics and Statistics classes investigated the surface area, circumference and volume of cakes; tidying up after this activity inevitably led to the eating of them!
So remember, mathematics is everywhere…
